FYC 6421: Leadership for Nonprofit Organizations
This course prepares students to participate in the governance, policy and decision-making and planning functions of local and national nonprofit organizations. The focus of the course is on developing a business plan that includes the major components of a successfully functioning nonprofit organization. This is the foundation course for the current graduate nonprofit minor.
FYC 6422: Policy Issues and Case Studies in Nonprofit Organizations
This course focuses on the study and analysis of cases and policy related to the operation and management of nonprofit organizations. The goal of this course is to enable students to understand, analyze and apply the knowledge base of current nonprofit concepts, theories and practices through the study of real and hypothetical situations. The format for the course will include lecture, facilitated discussion, case analysis and presentation, and project learning assignments.
FYC 6423: Non Government Organizations
In this course students will develop a knowledge base of concepts, history, ideas and information based on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) as they evolved from the work of the United Nations. Emphasis will be given to the operation of NGOs/INGOs or coalition within a specific context of policy, culture, geography and social movement. Students will be able to work with a non-governmental organization with an understanding of the purpose, organizational structure, activities, geographical spread, and relationship to governments.
FYC 6424: Fundraising for Community Nonprofit Organizations
This three credit course covers the nonprofit organization career specialization, fund raising. The course will cover contemporary trends in the profession, its theoretical perspectives, and various fund raising techniques that are unique to the charitable nonprofit sector.
FYC 6425: Risk Management for Nonprofit Organizations
This course will provide the student with a foundation in the theory, principles and strategies associated with risk management. Topics include the nature and purpose of risk management; the general risk management exposures facing nonprofit organizations; and risk financing strategies for nonprofits. The goal of this course is to enable students to understand, analyze and apply risk management theory and techniques to risk exposures associated with nonprofit organizations.
